Tenna Takes on Production Management with the Addition of Virtual Superintendent - Tenna Production Management

The move marks the next step in the journey Tenna has walked alongside hundreds of contractors, going beyond the asset and onto the jobsite to deliver true jobsite intelligence.

New Hope, PA (October 6, 2026) – TENNA, the construction equipment management software powering mixed fleet operations, today announced its entry into production management with the addition of Virtual Superintendent. The move extends Tenna beyond the machine and into jobsite productivity, a natural next step in Tenna’s evolution alongside its customers to give contractors a live view of what their equipment, materials and crews actually produced on the jobsite itself, all on Tenna’s single platform.

For a decade, Tenna has answered the questions contractors ask about their assets: where the machine is, what it is doing, and what it costs to own and operate. Tenna production management via Virtual Superintendent answers the key question that comes next about what the jobsite actually produced – “What’s happening on my job?” With this new product, contractors can connect labor and materials alongside assets on Tenna in a single operational picture and measure the productivity of each to see overall cost and completion on the job while the work is still happening.

This union of assets, labor and materials on a single system is a need that Tenna customers and the broader market have been demanding for years, as centralized visibility would close a gap where margin is lost today. On most heavy civil and self-performing jobs, quantities are tallied on paper, tickets are chased and verified by hand, and the numbers do not true up until the end of the month. By the time a contractor learns a job is underwater, the opportunity for corrective action has passed.

“Tenna is excited to enter the world of automated production management with Virtual Superintendent. This product is a tried-and-true solution powering massive infrastructure projects and billions of dollars’ worth of project delivery work in Australia over the past ten years,” says Jose Cueva, Co-Founder and Chief Product Officer at Tenna. “Up until this point, the asset has been the center of our universe. Consolidating production and timecards onto Tenna is a solution our customers have been asking about for years, and we’re thrilled to officially meet this demand on our platform.“

Available for the First Time in North America: Load Tracking

The first Virtual Superintendent solution available today to Tenna customers that self-perform earth and sitework is Load Tracking, an automated approach to tracking material movement on earthmoving and aggregate work, powered by telematics and AI. This is a category of jobsite data that has never been automated in the U.S. construction market in a simple way that requires no additional component installation.

The Load Tracking engine runs on the telematics data already flowing from Tenna’s best-in-class hardware with one-second data reporting (1hz), with machine learning models layered on top. Rather than reading GPS position alone, the models interpret the work: recognizing when an excavator begins loading a truck and when that load is complete, when the next truck is queued and waiting, and when material is dumped. Haul cycles (time and distance) and overall quantities, counts and averages across individual loads are measured automatically, then attributed to the job. This data is accessible in real time, minute-by-minute at both the asset and site level.

Tenna Takes on Production Management with the Addition of Virtual Superintendent - Tenna Production Management“Civil earthmoving contractors that have ADTs in their fleet are probably doing this today by hand,” says Joshua Gilbert, Product Manager at Tenna. “That’s exactly who this solution is for, and Tenna is the only provider in the U.S. that can support the high-res data feed required to see a true and complete picture of live productivity.“

Dirt and aggregate are main pay items, and automated quantities are the foundation for accurate cost capture. Because Load Tracking ties a quantity and a dollar amount to a cost code as the work happens, contractors can measure production against the rate they bid to, in dollars per unit of measure, and see where a job is earning and losing margin.

Field data traditionally has a credibility problem, and this product was designed around that. Contractors using Virtual Superintendent in Australia on work involving tens of millions of cubic yards of material moved have run automated counts side by side with their own manual tallies and found the difference negligible enough to end the debate. An independent trial on a major Australian infrastructure project found that the volumes tracked with Virtual Superintendent were within 5% of surveyed volumes.

“For most of its life this product sold itself by word of mouth. A supervisor would use it on one project and ask for it on the next, and that only happens when people trust what they are looking at. Trust and control are the two elements we have built around for years. If a contractor cannot see the number, verify it, and believe it, it does not matter how clever the system is underneath,“ says Jeff Tait, CEO of Virtual Superintendent. “Australian contractors held us to that standard on the hardest work in the country, and it is why we know it’s ready for North America.”

Who This Matters To

For superintendents and operations personnel, Virtual Superintendent helps check cut and fill balance during moves and catch an over-excavation before backfill goes in. It means knowing yards moved per shift while the shift is still running instead of on next month’s quantity report, and tracking haul cycle times while the trucks are still running the loop. That enables course correction today and tomorrow, instead of discovering costly mistakes long after they can be fixed.

For finance and project leadership, it means knowing where the job stands while the crew is still on site rather than at closeout. It means seeing the burn rate mid-job instead of finding it in the final billing. Virtual Superintendent allows contractors to review job costs while they can still do something about them, knowing cost per unit before the pay item closes out and how they are performing against the bid. This data and visibility de-risks projects, protects margin and drives profitable outcomes.

For foremen and field engineers, it means the end of tallying loads in a notebook and the end of spending an afternoon verifying tickets and reconciling spreadsheets a week after the dirt is moved. Electronic capture builds the digital record automatically, which frees the field from administrative work and returns that time to safety and doing what they love in the field on the project itself.

For the business as a whole, it adds up to one platform. Most contractors piece together the answer to a single question from multiple disconnected systems. On Tenna, asset tracking, fleet maintenance, resource management and dispatching, safety and compliance, equipment and jobsite profitability, and now production all live in one place. No other platform for construction brings all of this together, giving contractors one place to run their operations from the equipment in the yard and shop, to the production on the jobsite and the job costs in the back office.

What’s Next for Tenna Production Management

Labor timecards, ticketing, material order and delivery management, related cost capture and reporting, and other jobsite-specific functionality will follow. With Virtual Superintendent, Tenna customers can extend their asset intelligence to the jobsite, understanding how much material was moved, where it went, what it cost, and whether the crew is hitting the rate the job was bid at, giving contractors insight into their machines, materials and manpower together on Tenna’s single platform.

Virtual Superintendent is a natural extension of Tenna’s current product offerings and ecosystem. The company looks forward to continuing to close the gap on construction market needs by introducing this solution to Tenna customers in North America.

“Following Asset Financials, this is the second time this year we’ve put something in contractors’ hands that they’ve been asking us for. We came out of a construction business ourselves, so these are problems we wanted to solve long before we could sell anyone an answer. Virtual Superintendent is the next step in Tenna’s evolution as the jobsite intelligence platform contractors run their operations on,” noted Austin Conti, CEO and Co-Founder of Tenna.
